Series Returns for Seventh Year as Platform to Professional Status,
Registration Now Open at gatoradefreeflowtour.com
Burr Ridge, Ill. – April 21, 2011 – Seeking the best amateur skaters and BMX riders across the country, the Gatorade Free Flow Tour today announced the complete schedule for the 2011 season. Hosting a total of 31 contests at 21 parks this summer, the Tour officially kicks off May 15 in Taunton, Mass. at Skater’s Edge. Registration for all events is now open at gatoradefreeflowtour.com.
“Kicking off the seventh season of the summer Gatorade Free Flow Tour is a major success in our support of up-and-coming talent in skateboarding and BMX,” said Carla Hess, action sports team manager for Gatorade. “Expanding our contests to new parks while providing professional-quality contests will set us apart yet again.”
Providing a direct path of ascension from amateur to professional status, the Tour offers amateurs the opportunity to gain valuable contest experience as they compete to go from “Flow to Pro”. The Tour has been a career starting point for professional athletes such as Chaz Ortiz (skateboard park), Mike Spinner (BMX park) and Timmy Knuth (skateboard park), each advancing to successful years on the professional contest circuits following their Gatorade Free Flow Tour successes.
“Winning the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals last summer was an exciting experience. One month I was competing on professional courses as an amateur, with the professionals watching us and giving us advice, and the next I was in Las Vegas competing against those same pros,” said 2010 skate park Champion Alec Majerus. “The Dew Tour Championships were crazy; I couldn’t believe I finished sixth. I’m really looking forward to earning a spot on the professional circuit this summer.”
Building on the buzz around the Gatorade Free Flow Tour is the grassroots Park Revolution program. Returning from last year, this unique opportunity gives back to each host park as they are given a shot at winning a share of $17,500. Participating parks will receive marketing tools to promote their local event, with results comprised of a mix of Facebook voting and industry guest judging. With a focus on quality events, the Gatorade Free Flow Tour will hold contests in BMX park and dirt and skateboard park and vert. The top finisher in each BMX and skate park contest will advance to the Finals. BMX dirt, and, for the first time, skateboard vert will be featured at three contests each. Reaching from Florida to California, these contests will take the top three finishers from each event to the Finals.
